The America Of Today And Yester-Year

What happen to the simple times of Yester-Year in the USA. The days of Yester-Year were not without its problems, but it seemed like a simpler time. When I think of Yester-Year my mind tends to gravitate toward the sitcom “Leave It To Beaver”. The Cleaver family would sit down to a family breakfast before leaving for work and school. The family always had dinner together and after dinner they would relax and watch the news or family shows on the Television. The news wasn’t always filled with violence and family shows were just that.

In today’s economy two incomes are needed so the female is returning home along with the male. When you get an opportunity to settle down and watch the News on TV, it means hearing about yet another horrific event locally or around the world. It’s very common to live next door to people for years and never speak to them or even know their name.

During that earlier era people knew and would lend a helping hand to their neighbors. For the most part people would speak openly and freely about domestic or political affairs without ridicule. We live in the new age world where the phrase “Think Before Your Speak” have a brand new meaning. I recall Bill O’Reilly speaking on THE VIEW used the term Muslims attached us on 911 opposed to Radical Muslims. This comment was offensive to Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar and they in return walked off the set. Whoopi mentioned the fact that Muhammad Ali and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is Muslim, therefore, they will be grouped within the Muslim culture when the word “Muslims” is being used generically.

During the days of Yester-Year, It was fun to hop a flight for a favorite vacation spot, or to visit relatives and friends? The most concern you had on the way to the airport was what food items are being served during the flight. Today, the carefree days of taking a leisure flight to a favorite vacation spot or to visit friends and family most likely means being searched, scanned and walking bare footed on not so sanitary floors in the name of safety.

So really what happened to the leisure years of Yester-Year in the USA; you no doubt would get different answers from different people. The question is WHEN, & HOW did the USA become so problematic. In the America of today we are dealing with many diverse issues including immigration, terrorism, extreme unemployment, high debt ratio and so on. People generally migrate to the USA for a better way of life, but in essence many naturalized Americans are struggling to find a better way of life, with the state of the economy being so fragile. The middle class has become almost extinct.

Based on what’s being reported throughout different Medias it seems as if homegrown terrorists are becoming more abundant. The USA is a proud country of immigrants; however, it tends to have silos of countries within the country because immigrants are exposed to the culture but some will not embrace it? Is it possible to assimilate in a new culture and preserve the old culture? I think that it’s not only possible but necessary to assimilate and preserve diversity for preservation of history.

Extreme separatism between races and cultures of people make it difficult for officials of the law to obtain vital information about individuals that may cause undue harm to others. Today, we live in a Cocoon of the internet, TV and other media outlets that shape our view points regarding people culturally. More often then not what’s being reported is an act of violence and many good deeds go un-noticed or un-reported.

The big question still remains; how do we get the USA back on track? We need our political leaders to take off their rose colored glasses, stop fighting, exhibit more of a bipartisan effort and seriously work as a team toward the preservation of the USA for the interests and protection of current and future generations.

I loved this article. Everything you wrote was so true. I think if more people thought like you do and recognized these simple facts, we could get away from all the bickering and separation, and back into being united and live our lives.

I am really glad that there are still people like you out there getting their voice heard.
